The purpose of the Southeast NB Education and Industry Council is to formalize the collaboration needed to ensure a strong education and post-secondary education presence in the region that is aligned with and responsive to the labour force needs of the business community.
The council was formed as a result of two Education and Industry Forums held in 2007. The first forum served to set the stage for the breadth and number of challenges and issues that need to be addressed. It opened the way to the sustained dialogue and concerted effort that need to become second nature among the education sector, industry and government in order to best meet the current and future needs of industry in Southeast New Brunswick and support the growth potential of this region.
A Working Committee formed at the end of this first forum was tasked to take the next step in that direction, with one of the key components of its mandate to recommend to the Follow-up Forum the feasibility of establishing a permanent Education and Industry body in the region. This task was accomplished with great care and thoughtfulness, the result of which was the near unanimous endorsement of the proposed action plan by the Follow-up Forum participants.

The contact center industry has flourished and is expected to continue to grow in Greater Moncton. Human Resources professionals in the industry are faced with growing challenges, recruiting and retaining employees as well as addressing the job hopping phenomenon. Through vision and partnership EGM has helped Human Resources professionals in our community’s Contact Centers coordinate regular meetings to network and share best practices.
The partnership is now coordinated by Contact NB and has grown to over 50 representatives from 28 Contact Centers and stakeholder organizations.
The strength of the Knowledge Industry is built on its ability to attract and retain a high caliber workforce. Understanding the importance of recognizing IT professionals throughout New Brunswick, Rising Stars rewarded over 60 IT individuals for their achievements in their profession.
Rising Stars is an annual provincial event that recognizes knowledge industry workers in companies or organizations throughout New Brunswick. These individuals have distinguished themselves with the quality of their work and for their positive impact in their community and the industry.
In 2007, the Rising Stars program introduced the Junior Stars awards. Celebrating true up-and-comers, six high school and junior high school students were recognized for their accomplishments in the science and technology fields.
In addition to being recognized for their work, the Rising Stars will be provided with a mentorship program for the year. The program thoroughly prepares them to become our future leaders … and entrepreneurs.

EGM identified creative and cultural industries as an area for growth in our economy. In 2006, EGM introduced, in partnership with the Department of Postsecondary Education Training and Labour and Film New Brunswick, a new spin to the Northrop Frye Festival by merging it to the film industry.
The Frye Festival highlights a workshop for local writers and film producers about how to write for film and develop their professional capacities while showing them how to commercialize their opportunities. The “Writing for film” workshop has welcomed high profile artists and professionals including David Gerson, Myriam Cyr, Jacques Savoie, Tony Sekulich, Randy Pearlstein and Russell Banks.
The Frye Festival will be held from April 17-26, 2009.
